How to be a scuba diver on lockdown

Are you missing being a diver during lockdown? We are too!! Being on lockdown doesn’t mean that you need to completely disconnect from your love of diving though – here are some ways to stay involved in diving, and even develop your dive skills, from home…

Develop Your Dive Skills From Your Sofa

Have you always thought about taking your next level of PADI Course or wanted to take a specialty but never found the time or didn’t want to commit your time to studying? Well, there is no time like the present to get started and get the theory out of the way without even leaving home. If you are looking for something to do on lockdown then this could be the solution! PADI eLearning takes care of the knowledge development component of your PADI course and by taking it at home, you can work through it at your own pace.

Here are some of our favourites:

  1. Advanced Open Water: This is your next step if you are an Open Water Diver. The PADI Advanced course will certify you to dive to 30 meters – which means even more Melbourne dive sites to explore! You’ll also learn how to navigate underwater as well as looking at 3 other types of diving!

  • Rescue Diver: Professional divers will often cite this as being the most rewarding course they ever took. You’ll not only learn lifesaving skills and techniques, you’ll also look at accident prevention, self-rescue, search patterns, and accident and emergency management. If you are thinking about joining us for a PADI Divemaster Course or if you would like to become a PADI Instructor in the future then the PADI Rescue Diver Course is essential.
  • Divemaster: Yes!! You can now start your journey to becoming a PADI Professional at home! If you are thinking of the diving industry as a future career path, get started now!

  • Enriched Air Diver (Nitrox): Do you feel cheated when your computer tells you to shallow up even though you have ample air remaining in your tank? Have you ever wished you could stay deeper for longer? Diving with Enriched Air (Nitrox) increases your allowable bottom time meaning you can admire the depths of your favourite dive sites for longer!
  • Digital Underwater Photography Specialty: You might not be able to go diving right now but the skills and techniques you learn in the PADI Digital Underwater Photography specialty can be practiced at home – which means hours of entertainment with your camera when you can’t go out!

Edit Your Pictures

How many pictures did you take on your last dives in Melbourne or on your last overseas dive trip? What have you done with them since? How many of them have you edited or framed? Get Involved

What marine organisations are there in your area and how well do you know them? Take a look online and find out what groups are active in your area and ask if there is anything you can do to help from home. If they don’t need volunteers right now, at least you’ll have made contact and ask them to let you know when they have events coming up in the future.
