Wreck Diver

Specialty Course – Wreck Diver

Introduction

Melbourne has some amazing wreck diving opportunities! We are fortunate to have 4 of the fleet of World War One J-Class Submarines lying in the 30-40m depth range. Along with another impressively big Ex HMAS Canberra navy frigate which was purposely scuttled for diving! All just an accessibly short boat trip from Portsea.

Whether you have the urge to look at shipwrecks for the historical value or you are interested in diving on wrecks that have formed into artificial reefs and are teaming with marine life, there are many wreck to explore in Melbourne.

Description

The purpose of the wreck course is to familiarise divers with the skills, knowledge, planning, organisation, procedures, techniques, problems, hazards and excitement of diving on wrecks.

The course is intended as a safe, supervised introduction. It will cover research & location of wrecks, search & recovery techniques, salvage rights, wreck surveys and the techniques involved in safely diving and penetrating a variety of wrecks.

Many of the available wreck dives are in deeper water so it is an advantage to hold a deep diver certification before starting the course.
